2021 Fall Trip - Day 34 - 9/26/2021

Sunday, Sept. 26, 2021 - Only one state - Tennessee - but the Longest Day (524 miles driving today):

After a nice tour of the facility (have to get my "Post Office" photo):
we headed down the road to Nashville (and The Parthanon):
They previously had a "No Photos" policy, but pictures were fine this time. Art Highlights include:

Thomas Moran - "Town Pond - Easthampton", 1901 oil:

Winslow Homer - "Rab and the Girls (Over the Hills)", 1875 oil:

Sanford Robinson Gifford - "Autumn in the Catskills", 1871 oil:

Frederic Edwin Church - "The Wreck", 1852 oil:

Don't worry - no pictures of the GIANT goddess Athena this time around.

Hey, it is pretty peaceful driving down I-40 East in the middle of Sunday afternoon:

The next stop was the Norris Dam Visitor Center:
On November 22, 2019, Wendy and I visited the New Britain Museum of American Art (in New Britain, Connecticut), and I noticed a painting by Paul Sample - "Norris Dam", 1935 oil:
I was captivated by the image - the geography, and the work that was being done on that geography (terraforming?). I had included a "visit to Norris Dam" on my earliest itinerary of this roadtrip. Although the hills are now full of trees (and I don't have the time for a long hike up to the painting's point-of-view), the dam/river is certainly a very lovely area:

It was another 2 hours before we checked into the Super 8, Kingsport, Tennessee, which made it our longest day (won't do that again!). I'm glad we could get it done, and Thank you God for these wonderful adventures!

Music for today:

Michael Jones - Seascapes, 1984

Narada ("Narada Productions"), started in 1983, was an independent new-age music label (like Windham Hill). It produced some really nice stuff.

The Bangles - Greatest Hits (The Bangles), 1999

The Byrds - The Byrds Play Dylan, 1979

The Cars - The Cars Greatest Hits, 1985

The Dave Clark Five - The Hits - DC5

Bob Dylan - Nashville Skyline, 1969

Well, of course, going through Nashville!!

The Doobie Brothers - Takin' It To The Streets, 1976 (first with Michael McDonald)

The Four Tops - The Best Of Four Tops - Millennium Collection, 1999

The Persuasions - The Persuasions Sing U2, 2005
