Monday, Sept. 20, 2021 - Off to The Brinton Museum in Big Horn, Wyoming, and then Devils Tower, Wyoming - 297 miles:
Snow on the car as I got up this morning:
I LOVE heading east, down out of the Bighorn Mountains:
We had a GREAT BREAKFAST at the Silver Spur Cafe down in Sheridan, and then headed southwest to The Brinton Museum:
Their Art Museum has SOME BEAUTIFUL STUFF:
Thomas Moran - "Devil's Tower", 1919:
Worthington Whittredge - "Indian Encampment (Long Peak, Colorado)", c. 1850-1900:
Wendy thought the walls were really cool:
I then got back up on I-90 East:
WAIT - where are the "weather systems" out here??
We got to Devils Tower National Monument around 1:30
It is a REALLY COOL PLACE:
We did a great 2-mile walk around the base:
I hope I can communicate the sense-of-scale, seeing these climbers:
It was a nice drive back out:
Especially seeing some deer playing in the woods:
We crossed over into Western South Dakota (which looks a lot like Eastern Wyoming):
We checked into the Travelodge in Spearfish, South Dakota - take-out dinner from Perkins Family Restaurant. Thank you God for this wonderful adventure day with my Beautiful Bride!
Music for today:
Donavon Frankenreiter - Move By Yourself, 2006
Donovan - Donovan's Greatest Hits, 1969
Drive-By Truckers - Decoration Day, 2003
Drive-By Truckers - Brighter Than Creation's Dark, 2008
Elton John - Captain Fantastic and The Brown Dirt Cowboy, 1975
Enigma - Love Sensuality Devotion: The Greatest Hits, 2001
Eurythmics - Greatest Hits (Eurythmics), 1991
Eric Burden & The Animals - Absolute Animals: 1964-1968, 2003
This is actually just 4 songs at the end of the "Absolute Animals" album: "When I Was Young", "San Franciscan Nights", "Monterey", "Sky Pilot". The rest of this excellent album is by "The Animals" (before Eric Burden's big ego got the better of the situation).
"Monterey" has the GREAT lyric: "You want to find the truth in life, don't pass music by."
Emerson, Lake & Palmer - Come And See The Show: The Best Of ELP, 2012
Eddie Heywood - Portrait of an Island, 1973
