2024 Summer Road Trip - Day 32-of-35 - July 23, 2024

Tuesday, July 23, 2024 - Stretching my legs down The Road (498 miles today), PLUS seeing 3 Art Museums:

Early morning, and the cornfields of Perrysville, Indiana:

And they have a nice Post Office - 47974 - Perrysville, Indiana:

I arrived at the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art in Indianapolis just after 10:

The "Western Art" is the part I like! With Remington sculptures and paintings by Albert Bierstadt, Alfred Jacob Miller, Thomas Moran and Thomas Worthington Whittredge, this museum is a draw for me when the Interstates take me here (Indianapolis is the intersection of not 2, not 3, but 4 Interstates - I-65 (north-south), I-69 (northeast-southwest), I-70 (east-west), and I-74 (northwest-southeast)). Having said that, my 2 favorites today are P.A. Nisbet - "Beneath the Blue Moon Bench", 2012 oil:

and a set of three pictures by Wilson Hurley - "October Suite, Grand Canyon", 1991 oil:

I then headed a little bit north to the Indianapolis Museum of Art (currently part of the Newfields complex):

LET'S BANG OUT THE MASTERPIECES!

Pablo Picasso - "Ma Jolie", 1913-14 oil - Picasso and Braque invented Cubism, with its differing perspectives of a single object:

Amedeo Modigliani - "The Boy", 1919 oil - I like his work. Over the years I have taken photos of 32 of his paintings, including 10 at The Barnes Foundation, Philadelphia and 1 down at The Old Jail Art Center, Albany, Texas:

Claude Monet - "The Church of San Giorgio Maggiore, Venice", 1908 oil:

Claude Monet - "Charing Cross Bridge", c. 1900 oil:

J.M.W. Turner - "Borthwick Castle", 1818 watercolour:

This was the original watercolour. An engraving was made from it in 1819 by Henry Le Keux, and published in "Provincial Antiquities and Picturesque Scenery of Scotland", by Sir Walter Scott, published in parts between 1819–26:

Utagawa Hiroshige - "Awa: Naruto Whirlpool's Rough Seas", 1855 color woodblock print:

Vincent van Gogh - "Landscape at Saint-Rémy", 1889 oil:

Edward Hopper - "Hotel Lobby", 1943 oil:

J.M.W. Turner - "The Fifth Plague of Egypt", 1800 oil:

Frederick Wilson/Tiffany Studios - "Angel of the Resurrection", 1903-04 stained glass and lead:

Childe Hassam - "Cliff Rock - Appledore", 1903 oil:

Winslow Homer - "The Boat Builders", 1873 oil:

Wasn't that a fun "Museum Hike":

And then it was time to head on down The Road. There was some big accident/road closure on I-74 on my way to Cincinnati, so I took some back-roads. "Nice Roof, Needs Work" - I'm glad they added Some Greenery to spruce the place up:

I reached the Cincinnati Art Museum at 4:17 (yes, they close at 5):

I took 33 photos - the best are:

Thomas Moran - "Landscape in the Hamptons, Long Island", 1890 oil:

Edward Hopper - "Sun on Prospect Street (Gloucester, Massachusetts)", 1934 oil - it just occurred to me that Hopper's lighting and sense-of-desolation is a perfect Science Fiction illustration of what the world would look like after "the perfect bomb" went off (the one that eliminates all people, but all "things" remain):

Andrew Wyeth - "Henry Teel", 1945 tempera:

Sanford Robinson Gifford - "The Wilderness", 1861 oil:

Albert Bierstadt - "Bridal Veil Falls, Yosemite Valley, California", ca. 1871-73 oil:

Thomas Cole - "View Across Frenchman's Bay from Mt. Desert Island, After a squall", 1845 oil:

Canaletto - "The Arch of Septimus Severus in Rome", ca. 1743 oil:

Claude Monet - "Rocks at Belle-Île, Port-Dormois", 1886 oil:

Pablo Picasso - "Still Life with Glass and Lemon", 1911 oil:

William Louis Sonntag - "Landscape", 1854 oil:

At 9:42 I crossed into West Virginia, and 10 minutes later I was at the Super 8 in Wheeling, West Virginia - 498 miles today. Thank you God for these wonderful "Road Trip" adventures!
