Monday, Sept. 17, 2018 - Explore Lower Antelope Canyon and Monument Valley = 296 miles driving:
We entered Arizona at 9:20 AM (8:20 "their time" because they don't do daylight-savings-time; half the year they are on Mountain Time, and half the year they are on Pacific Time):
We pulled into Ken's Tours at 8:53, for a 9 AM check-in:
The ONLY WAY that you are allowed to see Lower Antelope Canyon is to book a spot on a tour given either by Ken's Tours or Dixie Ellis’ Antelope Lower Canyon Tours. I picked Ken's (flip of a coin), and Wendy got THE LAST TICKET on the 9:30 tour, and I got THE LAST TICKET on the 10 AM tour - this was done August 20! They do not advertise, so if you like what you see, book far ahead!
You start by descending a metal staircase at the lower end of the Canyon (and then you will walk (slightly) uphill and climb out of the Canyon when the tour is done):
Once down in the narrow slot canyon, the walk and the visions begin:
You generally proceed single-file, but occasionally there are larger spaces for groups:
The Colors, and Textures, and Sense of Adventure are Wonderful:
and it is always fun to get a Den-and-Wen picture:
And then this is our guide climbing out of the Canyon after all of us:
EXCELLENT ADVENTURE!!
Back on the road in northeast Arizona:
And then into the (real) Monument Valley Visitor Center:
We then drove "the road" that winds through Monument Valley - um, and I use the word "road" VERY LOOSELY:
It was kind-of-hot later in the afternoon:
Back in Utah:
(I don't know - looks a lot like Arizona, if you ask me.)
We checked into the Super 8 in Blanding, Utah at 5:30. Thank you God for this wonderful ADVENTURE day!
Driving Music:
Given this desert environment, I want to listen to some Eagles
The Eagles, 1972 first album
Desperado, 1973 second album
lyrics "Certain Kind of Fool":
It wasn't for the runnin' ,
but now he's runnin' everyday
On the Border, 1974 third album
One of These Nights, 1975 fourth album
Hotel California, 1976 fifth studio album
