Fall 2018, Day 18 - SNOWBIRD, plus art museums

Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2018 - Explore Snowbird, and art museums = 312 miles driving!:

We made it over to the Utah Museum of Fine Arts (on the campus of the University of Utah) - it looks like a REALLY BIG PLACE:

2 nice pieces are:

Thomas Moran (Louis Prang chromolithograph) - "Great Falls of Snake River, Idaho Territory", 1876

Albert Bierstadt - "Wasatch Mountains", 1863:

Then up Little Cottonwood Canyon - it was GREAT having Wendy up at Snowbird, where Dennis and Deede ski:

The place was looking good:

We had a nice lunch outside, and then took the tram to the summit:

At the top, we took a quick walk through the restaurant (which was open), and went out the back to see Mineral Basin:

(? poster shot, anyone?)

And, of course, looking down the "regular ski area" was pretty cool as well:

On the backside of that main-peak-and-ridge is Alta.

And then it was time to head back down:

Looking closely, it seems they have planted grass on the roof of most of the buildings - very cool!

We headed back down the Canyon, and went south to "Bridal Veil Falls" (boy, there sure must have been a lot of brides wearing veils once upon a time!):

It is VERY COLD water, which flows right into the Provo River:

We made a quick visit to the nearby Springville Museum of Art:

Wendy enjoyed their quilt exhibition, but the piece I was hoping to see was not on display.

We then did a 3-hour drive down to a quick sunset-drive through Arches National Park (more tomorrow!), and checked into the Super 8 Moab. Dinner just up the road at The Atomic Grill, then time for bed. Thank you God for these Wonderful Adventures, and for the physical ability to make this happen.
