Sunday, Sept 13, 2015 - just driving and hiking in Arizona today! Starting from the Super 8 in Wickenburg, northeast 62 miles to All Saints Anglican Church (Prescott), then the Chapel of the Holy Cross (Sedona), hike the Jordan Trail (Sedona), north to the Oak Creek Vista Point, north-then-east to Meteor Crater (just west of Winslow), then back down to the Super 8 in Wickenburg:
400 miles; 7 hours 15 minutes.
Heading up to the 10 AM Service at All Saints Anglican Church in Prescott, AZ, I drove on my New Favorite Road - AZ-89:
It comes off the flatlands right up the side of the mountains to get to the town of Yarnell (from left to right)
after about 40 minutes you enter the Prescott National Forest, with some very windy (goes back-and-forth, not high wind speed) turns
Thank You God for giving me Church today:
The view from the Red Rock Visitor Center on Highway 179, 6 miles North of I-17 intersection:
Getting into the area is pretty awesome! These are all in the 5 miles going up to the Chapel of the Holy Cross:
The Chapel of the Holy Cross is pretty cool:
The town of Sedona is very attractive; I look forward to bringing Wendy here for a few days, then heading to the Grand Canyon (maybe next year).
When I was at the Jiffy Lube Friday afternoon (and a million miles ago), I took a photo of a paragraph in a Conde Nast Traveler magazine:
Click on the original article title: Desert High: The Perfect American Southwest Road Trip
So I researched Jordan Trail and it looked GREAT! This is the parking lot at the trailhead:
The Trail is 2-miles-in and then 2-miles-back-out; I have two big water bottles in my backpack, and it is overcast, so off I go
The whole area has a wonderful aliveness to it - see the flowers on the cactus!
And my selfie at the end of the Trail:
Back down to the car, in a little rain (hey, it keeps things cool), and then it started pouring as I went through Sedona. I turned north on AZ-89A, and it continued to be my New Favorite Road! The road goes north through Oak Creek Canyon
Click on a blog about it: Oak Creek Canyon Scenic Drive
After a set of hairpin turns up the cliffside, you arrive at Oak Creek Canyon Vista Point, and its view of where you just came from:
I kept going north to Flagstaff, then east to Meteor Crater (interestingly, it is not a National Monument, but is privately owned and has been designated a National Natural Landmark):
pretty cool
Then back to Wickenburg. Actually drove 412 miles today - Thank You GOD for a great adventure day!
Music today was still songs starting with "I": 116 songs, starting with
I Just Want To Make Love To You (Live) 1974 Van Morrison It's Too Late To Stop Now (live)
and ending with
I Shall Be Released 1974 Bob Dylan/The Band Before The Flood (2 cds)
The list can be accessed here
Highlights include:
I Knew Prufrock Before He Got Famous 2009 Frank Turner Love Ire & Song
I love Frank Turner's music, and his passion - he is soooo close to being a Christian: truth, justice, hope, aspiration, fulfillment, redemption, forgiveness, love - if only he didn't work soooo hard against it. Oh well.
I Know I'm Not Alone 2006 Michael Franti & Spearhead Yell Fire!
I Know I'm Not Alone 2007 Michael Franti & Spearhead Yell Fire! Live
Michael Franti has GREAT Rock and Roll instincts, and I love his music. I'm so glad Wendy and I were able to see him at the Boston Garden a couple of years ago (opening for John Mayer).
I Know What Boys Like 1982 Waitresses VH1: The Best Of Where Are They Now?
Did Wendy and I see them down at The Bottom Line in New York? Nobody else does "pout-rock" like The Waitresses!
3 versions of "I Know You Rider" by The Grateful Dead
I Love Music 1975 The O'Jays Love Train • The Sound Of Philadelphia (4 cds)
This blog is already too long, so that's all for now.
Wow, I have never seen a meteor crater like that... simply amazing... Love, CCD
