Fall 2015 - Day 20: Yosemite - Nevada Museum of Art - Bethel Church!

Friday, Sept 25, 2015 - Starting from Yosemite, east-then-north to the Nevada Museum of Art (Reno, Nevada), then west to the Super 8 in Redding, California, then 7 PM Service at the Bethel Church:

A big day - 438 actual miles; 8 hours 5 minutes.

It has been 43 years (May 1972) since I drove Tioga Road/Hwy 120 through Yosemite - what a Great Road! There is a turnout at Olmsted Point - it offers a view into Tenaya Canyon. This view looks southwest into the valley, giving, in particular, a view of the northern side of Half Dome:

and a view of Tenaya Lake to the east:

The site is named after landscape architects Frederick Law Olmsted and Frederick Law Olmsted, Jr.

The beauty at, and the beauty of, Tenaya Lake:

You then pass through Tuolumne Meadows:

and max out at Tioga Pass:

East of Yosemite you continue down a beautiful valley:

ending up down at Mono Lake:

Wendy took over the driving for the next 2-1/2 hours up to Reno, Nevada:

A month-or-so ago, my ArtFixDaily email newsletter mentioned The Nevada Museum of Art, and its new exhibit: TAHOE: A Visual History, which includes works by Albert Bierstadt, Thomas Hill, William Keith and Thomas Moran!
Thomas Moran - Lake Tahoe, 1879, watercolor:

Albert Bierstadt - View of Donner Lake, California, 1871-72:

Hiram Reynolds Bloomer - Untitled [Emerald Bay, Lake Tahoe], 1873:

It is a Great exhibit; the book, unfortunately, costs $75 in the Book Shop.

A dust storm in the distance, on 395 back in California

and Wendy at the Church in time for the 7 PM Worship Service!

which was ROCKING:

WOW - Thank You GOD for a Great Day!

Music today:

Grateful Dead - Workingman's Dead (1970)

Grateful Dead - American Beauty (1970)

"Friend of the Devil" lyrics:
I lit up from Reno
I was trailed by twenty hounds
Didn't get to sleep that night
Till the morning came around

Garland Jeffreys - American Boy & Girl (1979)

a lot of other music, but I gotta go
