Wednesday, Sept 23, 2015 - Starting from The Bishop’s Ranch (Healdsburg, CA), east to the Crocker Art Museum (Sacramento, CA), then continue east to Calaveras Big Trees State Park (Arnold, CA), then finish at the Evergreen Lodge (Yosemite, CA):
303 miles; 6 hour 6 minutes.
(right up against my Wendy-mandated 6 hour driving limit)
On the way to Sacramento, it was fun passing 4 exits for Dixon, California:
2 hours to the Crocker Art Museum, which is a combination of both old:
and new:
Along with the iconic painting by Thomas Hill - Great Canyon of the Sierra, Yosemite, 1871
I also liked works by Julian Walbridge Rix - Foggy Morning Near San Rafael, 1881:
(he has a wonderful Redwoods painting we just saw at The Haggin Museum in Stockton, CA)
and William Keith - Mount Tamalpais, ca. 1871
and an ink drawing very similar to my favorites by Li Huayi
Arnold Chang (Zhang Hong) - Lofty Cliffs, 2006
2 more hours east to Calaveras Big Trees State Park (Arnold, CA). These Sequoias (as opposed to Giant Redwoods) are magnificent:
And we saw two young deer right next to the path!:
Nature is everywhere!
Of Course - the person-in-the-tree photograph:
And it was GREAT to end the day with a swim in the pool at the Evergreen Lodge, just outside the entrance to Yosemite National Park - I can't wait for tomorrow!:
um, once again I forget the "music specifics", but Wendy continues to read Moby Dick out loud to me, which is a real joy!
