Thursday, Sept 24, 2015 - van tour and hiking in Yosemite National Park:
I had some idea that we could take a bus up to the top of Glacier Point and then hike down from there. I did my research on Tuesday, and YES there is a bus that runs from Yosemite Valley to Glacier Point three times a day. Unfortunately they were sold out for today ... so I called the Evergreen Lodge to see if they "had any pull" to get bus tickets, and they said no, but we have our own bus tour that goes there and there are only 3 spots available, so I said BOOK IT! After a GREAT BREAKFAST Thursday morning, 8 of us (including driver/tour guide) piled into the van and off we went. The views from Glacier Point are iconic (I find myself using that word/concept a lot on this trip - sorry - but if the shoe fits, wear it):
and we are ready to hike down to the Valley:
Although it is called "Four Mile Trail", it is listed as being 4.6 miles long - the actual length is closer to 5.1 miles. The trail is very flat, with a downward slope, and you can make excellent time on it if you want:
Get far enough down the trail (west), and you see El Capitan:
We stopped for a fun lunch:
with a beautiful view
Half Dome to the east:
El Capitan to the west:
WHAT A GREAT TRAIL!!
My iPhone battery died almost-at-the-end, so here are some of Wendy's pictures:
And we finished the day visiting Hetch Hetchy, just up the road from the Evergreen Lodge:
Thank You God for such a wonderful adventure day!!
