Day Three: Jackson, MI - Chicago museum - Davenport museum - Des Moines, IA
I was in four states, saw two museums, and put 550 miles under my belt. It was 46 degrees at 8 AM, but hit the 70s driving through Iowa.
Since the journey is as important as the destination (often it is more important), it was joyful seeing a deer eating in an Iowa cornfield, as well as the stunning beauty of Chicago on a crisp clear sunny morning. It being Saturday, the streets were swarming with people out enjoying the day and each other.
A quick note: it was a lot of fun listening to John Cougar Mellencamp driving through Indiana (his home state), as well as listening to the Blues Brothers 2000 soundtrack going into Chicago!
Today's favorite was not a single painting, but rather a room in the Art Institute of Chicago. They have a huge collection of works by Claude Monet and this room has haystack pictures, London fog pictures, and garden pictures. The majority of the light is natural from a skylight, which makes the gallery and the paintings most beautiful.
