Day Four: Des Moines, IA - Omaha, NE - Sterling, CO
Sunday morning - time to go to church. Although "right down the road", St. Andrew's in Omaha, NE was 2 hours and 15 minutes away. I had a very nice coffee hour with Lance and his wife who work in the church's Stephen Ministry. 11 AM service, and I knew all the words, and was able to get Wendy and Deede onto their "Prayers of the People"!
15 minutes over to the Joslyn Art Museum (opens at noon)
Most of the rooms in the museums that I have visited are extremely well done: tasteful displays (not overwhelming), lots of light (the best take advantage of skylights), and excellent wall colors. This room in the Joslyn is an excellent example:
The room displays 5 paintings by Albert Bierstadt, 2 by Thomas Hill, and 2 by Thomas Moran. My two favorites today are
Mountain Scene, 1892, by Thomas Hill
In the Teton Range, 1899, by Thomas Moran
