Tuesday, Oct 6, 2015 - Starting from the Super 8 in Brandon, Manitoba, east to the Winnipeg Art Gallery, then southeast to the Super 8 in St. Cloud, Minnesota:
536 actual miles; 9 hours driving
Manitoba is pretty rural - this is only a few miles outside the Winnipeg City boundary
The Winnipeg Art Gallery is a pretty cool structure:
There is not much of interest in their collection, but they are hosting an Exhibition:
Olympus: The Greco-Roman Collections of Berlin
Being a strong Christian, I am not a fan of art-representing-deities - people used to pray to these things! Having said that, these pieces are from the people who founded our Western Civilization. Notable pieces include:
Head of "Dresden Zeus", 2nd century AD, marble
"Berlin Dancer", 2nd century AD, marble
The Exhibit space is very well laid out, and allows excellent flow:
I went south, through Customs:
into North Dakota:
I'm sorry, but I think that North Dakota looks an awful lot like Manitoba:
Stopped in Fargo for postcards and groceries
The Minnesota countryside is very pretty, with lakes, fields, hills, and trees:
and I saw a heron in a creek!
I'm heading Home - Thank you God for a great day!
Music today - both albums and alphabetical songs
First alphabetically - 70 songs, starting with
Time To Go Home 2006 Michael Franti & Spearhead Yell Fire!
and ending with
Today (As For Me And My House) 2007 Dave Lubben 51 Must Have Modern Worship Hits
The list can be accessed here
Highlights include:
3 versions of The Times They Are A-Changin' - Bob Dylan, The Byrds, Richie Havens
The "single song" approach is the best way to listen to Mumford & Sons; maybe it is the best way to listen to all new music/new artists.
Tin Pan Alley (Live) 2001 Stevie Ray Vaughan Live At Montreux 1982 & 1985 (2 cds)
EXCELLENT EXCELLENT EXCELLENT Blues Guitar!
Then I got BACK IN THE U.S.A.!!!
(that means at least one album)
Linda Ronstadt - Living In The U.S.A., 1978
"Oh well oh well I feel so good today
We just touched ground on an international runway
Jet-propelled back home from overseas to the USA
New York, Los Angeles
Oh how I yearn for you
Detroit, Chicago, Chattanooga, Baton Rouge
God I long to be at my home back in old St Lou"
She also sings Little Feat's All That You Dream
"You just follow the rule
Keep your eyes on the road that's ahead of you"
Field Report: 1st self-titled album (2012) with their wonderful song "Fergus Falls"
the last album was Counting Crows - This Desert Life, 1999, which was excellent!!
