510 total miles driving today!
UP AND OUT EARLY TODAY - 37º F at 7 AM. Driving into the sunrise while listening to Yes singing "Heart of the Sunrise"!! (I hope these road signs are not important, because I cannot read a single one)
Not a cloud in the sky as I got to the Wichita Art Museum a little past 10:

They have nice exhibition spaces

Two simple pictures captivated me today:
N.C. Wyeth - The Homesteader, 1930

Winslow Homer - In the Mowing, 1874

The woman standing atop a hill where she has recently buried her husband (86 years ago), or the kids in a field watching a man working in the fields (142 years ago) still speak to me today of moments in life, when sometimes pauses must be taken.
Other beauties at the Wichita Art Museum include:
Thomas Moran - The Waterfall, 1857

Edward Hopper - Sunlight on Brownstones, 1956

Helen Frankenthaler - Sunday Green, 1976 [the painting should have had more direct lighting - it really would have made the colors JUMP!]

But maybe my favorite "exhibit" at the Museum was displays of art from the Wichita Art Museum's Summer Birthday Bash back on July 10, 2011. Done by kids (of course I love Jackson Pollock's drip paintings), the works were titled Swirling Colors: Platter C (or G or V):

The professional display of these works honors the kids who created them. I hope they stand up tall and throw their chests out!
It took me a little while to get out of Wichita:

I have been to the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art (Kansas City, MO) in 2013 - you can read about that day click-here-link-to-blog. Because these museums rotate so much of their art, it is certainly ok to visit once every three years, or so.
Canaletto and Guardi:

Francesco Guardi - View of the Dogana and Santa Maria della Salute, 1767-1769:

Auguste Rodin - Adam, modeled 1880

Thomas Moran - Grand Canyon, 1912

Andrew Wyeth - Old Orchard, 1957 watercolor

a very large and detailed Alfred Thompson Bricher - Schooner Close-Hauled, ca. 1883

John Frederick Kensett - A Woodland Waterfall, ca. 1855-1865

Winslow Homer - Gloucester Harbor, 1873 oil

Winslow Homer - Three Boys in a Dory with Lobster Pots, 1875 watercolor

Martin Johnson Heade - After the Rain in the Salt Marshes, ca. 1874

Thomas Moran - Venice, the Grand Canal with the Doge's Palace, 1888-1889

WOW - talk about a "Day of Art"! 6 PM Checked into the Super 8 in Columbia, Missouri - 1/2 rack of ribs at Texas Roadhouse!! This IS a wonderful adventure - Thank You God!
20 miles west of Columbia, on the west side of the Missouri River, is Overton, MO. More importantly, it is the access point for the Big Muddy National Fish and Wildlife Refuge, which looks like the only place to get AWESOME photos of the Cliffs on the East Side of the Missouri River (seen as I was on 70 East). The Katy Trail State Park runs alongside the cliffs, but the sun went down by the time I got back after checking-in at the Super 8. Ah well, have to come back and take some pics for myself - Internet photos:

Music today - "2nd Albums" (aren't I having FUN researching and listening to these!):
Yes - Fragile, 1971 (well, maybe this is their "fourth" official album ...)

Rickie Lee Jones - Pirates, 1981

Modern English - After The Snow, 1982

The Lumineers - Cleopatra, 2016

Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes - This Time It's For Real, 1977

Carrie Underwood - Carnival Ride, 2007
Listening to Carrie Underwood while driving through Kansas sounds "just right".
Ariana Grande - My Everything, 2014

Air Traffic Controller - NORDO, 2012

Afro Celt Sound System - Volume 2: Release, 1999

Continuing to play "Check Off The License Plates". Today I saw: MO.
Temperatures today: 37º at 7 AM; 77º at 3:49 PM
