Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2022 - NO HIKING - "Art in Texas" today:
Who's the "cool dude" driving down the highway, listening to cool tunes?
A wonderful aspect of the Museums in Fort Worth is that they are all within walking distance of each other:
I parked and hit the Amon Carter Museum of American Art first:
I have been here twice before (2014 and 2015), and additionally have seen some of their collection up in Portland, Maine and at The Met in New York City. It has always been a joy to explore here. Not to repeat previous entries, today's highlights include:
Alfred Jacob Miller - Buffalo Hunt, ca. 1838-42 oil:
Thomas Cole - The Garden of Eden, 1828 oil:
John Frederick Kensett - The Coast at Beverly, ca. 1865-70 oil:
Sanford Robinson Gifford - The View from Eagle Rock, New Jersey, 1862 oil:
and a wonderful "spatial piece" [similar to what I saw at the Figge Art Museum in Davenport, Iowa]: Gabriel Dawe - Plexus no. 34, 2016 Gütermann thread, painted wood, and hooks:
And then it was time to head down the hill to the Kimbell Art Museum:
I will have to research "Architecture of Art Museums" sometime - I love their (almost all Art Museums, in general) use-of-space!
I have been here twice before (2014 and 2015). They have an excellent collection, and host some wonderful exhibitions. My favorites today are:
J.M.W. Turner - Glaucus and Scylla, 1841 oil:
Francesco Guardi - Venice from the Bacino di San Marco, c. 1780 oil:
Canaletto - The Molo, Venice, c. 1735 oil:
Richard Parkes Bonington - The Grand Canal, Venice, Looking Toward the Rialto, 1826 oil:
Right next door is the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth - they have some GREAT SPACES, but only one piece I like:
Henry Moore - Two Piece Reclining Figure No. 2, 1960, bronze:
Time to hit the road for Dallas, Texas:
Frederic Edwin Church - The Icebergs, 1861 oil:
Thomas Moran - An Indian Paradise (Green River, Wyoming), 1911 oil:
Claude Monet - The Water Lily Pond (Clouds), 1903 oil:
I exited out the other entrance:
and headed out into the wilds of East Texas.
The Road can be a fun place for adventure:
"Cedar Creek Reservoir":
US Highway 175 is the only way to get down into East Texas:
Maybe I can get a "Family Discount"?
I didn't know there was a "Texas Forest Trail":
Very nice to see forests after desert:
I checked in to the Super 8 Jasper, Texas at 7:40 (Texas time) - 530 miles in 11 hours:
Thank You GOD for these wonderful "Art adventures"

Leonard Cohen - The Best of Leonard Cohen, 1975:
Very good selection, but missing my 3 favorite songs ("Master Song", "Winter Lady", "The Stranger Song") which are back-to-back-to-back on his first album. All 3 were included on the soundtrack of Robert Altman's 1971 film McCabe & Mrs. Miller, starring Warren Beatty and Julie Christie.
Lucius - Wildewoman, 2013 second album:
Houndstooth - No News From Home, 2015:

I don't need a whole cd of African Drum songs
