2025 Late-Summer Road Trip - Day 9-of-35 - August 22, 2025

Friday, Aug. 22, 2025 - A LOT OF ROAD today, heading west across The Desert - 543 miles ending up at the Days Inn, Winnemucca, NV:

Don't you just hate it when you're driving through Downtown Salt Lake City, and there is a 6-story crane right in your way!

My first stop is the Utah Museum of Fine Arts. I was here my first trip west in 2013, and then with Wendy in 2018. I like their collection:

Giovanni Paolo Panini - "Capriccio of Roman Ruins with Figures", mid-18th century oil:

Gilbert Munger - "The Wasatch Mountains with Salt Lake City and Great Salt Lake in the Foreground", 1877 oil:

Very nice walk to my car back through the University of Utah campus:

I headed south alongside The Wasatch Mountain Range - no hiking or skiing today, Jessie Bear:

I reached the Museum of Art at Brigham Young Univ. - I had had a disappointing trip here in 2018, so this time I did some research. SUCCESS:

They had TWO Wonderful Exhibits - "The Sense of Beauty: Six Centuries of Painting from Museo de Arte de Ponce" (in Ponce, Puerto Rico) and "Crossing the Divide: American Art from the Permanent Collection":

Frederic Edwin Church - "Morning in the Tropics", 1872 oil (from Museo de Arte de Ponce):

Edward Moran - "Shipwrecked", ca. 1877 oil (from BYU):

Sanford Robinson Gifford - "Lake Scene", 1866 oil (from BYU):

A FUN WALL:

It is always a pleasure seeing work by Gabriel Dawe - "Plexus no. 29", 2014. I have also seen his work in 2022 at the Amon Carter Museum of American Art, Fort Worth, TX ("Plexus no. 34") and in 2024 at the Bruce Museum, Greenwich, CT ("Plexus no. 43").

And just down the road is the Springville Museum of Art:

William Frederic Ritschel - "Mammoth Cove, Monterey Pennisula", c. 1924 oil:

and then it was time to HEAD WEST:

I got an extra hour from the Time Zone change, and checked-in at 9 PM (photo from the next morning) - 543 miles today (and 20 Post Offices):

This is what they looked like:

Thank you God for another wonderful Adventure Day!

Music for today:

Verve Pipe - Villians (The Freshman), 1996 album, last heard (in a blog) 8/24/2017 - I should put this single with Goodsongs:

The Decemberists - The King Is Dead (w. live cuts), 2011 album, last heard (in a blog) 6/01/2018 - The song "June Hymn" has the refrain "And summer comes to Springville Hill" - PERFECT for driving in Springville, Utah:

Brian Herbert & Kevin J. Anderson - Navigators of Dune, cds 7 + 8, 2016 audiobook:

Dave Matthews - Some Devil, 2003 debut solo album, last heard (in a blog) 11/15/2017 - not bad music, but I don't need to keep it:

Paul Simon - So Beautiful or So What, 2011 album, last heard (in a blog) 11/15/2017 - nice - listen to this more:

various - Surfin' USA, 2000 compilation album, last heard (in a blog) 11/18/2017 - The Beach Boys' song anchors some "just ok" surfin' hits:
