Day Twenty-Four: Columbia, MO - The Saint Louis Art Museum - Ladue, MO - Springfield, OH
The Saint Louis Art Museum is a great museum, with glorious architecture and an encompassing collection
in addition to paintings by Cole, Cropsey, Durand, Kensett, Winslow Homer, van Gogh, Pollock (1950), two by Bierstadt, a bronze by Remington, and sculptures ("Striding Artemis" marble, late 1st century BC-AD 1st century; and "Despair" by Rodin), there are 3 "pieces of note":
a beautiful leaded glass window: by John La Farge, "Hollyhocks, window from the Frederick Lothrop Ames House, Boston, Massachusetts", 1882
"Charing Cross Bridge", 1903, by Claude Monet
and the second-of-three "Water Lilies", c.1915-26, by Claude Monet
after the Art Museum, I backtracked to Ladue, which is where Wendy grew up, where I got married, and where Wendy's parents lived for a long long time.
A quick shot of 9610 Ladue, where Wendy grew up
St. Peter's Episcopal Church, where we got married
Mary Institute, where Wendy spent "her formative years"
and 911 S Warson, where Deede and Crunnie lived after selling 9610
and, of course, there is The Arch leaving St. Louis
I hate crossing time zones "backwards" - I'm driving along, and suddenly I lose an hour!
Apology: the Super 8 I stayed in over the weekend did not have any internet connection, so these postings have gotten postponed/bunched up
