2025 Late-Summer Road Trip - Day 8-of-35 - August 21, 2025

Thursday, Aug. 21, 2025 - Heading down The Road to Counting Crows in Salt Lake City TONIGHT - 483 miles ending up at the Microtel Salt Lake City Airport:

Look who joined me for breakfast this morning:

Super 8, Casper, WY did a Good Job:

Just when you think there's NOTHING out here:
... you hit a traffic light:

on 80 west, I still can't set Cruise Control higher than 90 mph (just testing)

I always like going through Green River, Wyoming:

"No Services" especially means "No Post Office":

A rest stop on I-80 in Utah:

Driving alongside the Echo Reservoir in Utah:

I checked in a little after 5 PM Microtel Salt Lake City Airport:

But that's NOT THE END OF THE DAY! After shower-and-computer-work (and talking with my beautiful bride), I headed over to the Counting Crows. Nice venue:

That's MY SEAT:

The Crows started at 9 PM (maybe I'm getting too old for this stuff). The sound was loud, but not LOUD. I don't like "having" to sit down all the time (self-imposed social restrictions) - maybe a lawn ticket next time. Excellent show (although they did play [I guess] 6 new songs, which got the crowd pretty quiet). The crowd went wild when they did "Friend of the Devil", with the line "Spent the night in Utah, in a cave up in the hills":

The show ended around 10:30/10:45, and I was back at the hotel and in bed by 11:30 - 483 miles today (and 9 Post Offices). This is what they looked like:

Thank you God for another wonderful Adventure Day!

Music for today:

The Rolling Stones - England's Newest Hit Makers, 1964 debut album, last heard (in a blog) 9/03/2021 - Sounds Excellent!:

John Mayer - "Route 66" from Cars soundtrack, 2006 album, last heard (in a blog) 5/29/2017 - The Lyrics are CLASSIC:

Well if you ever plan to motor west
Jack take my way, it's the highway that's the best
Get your kicks on Route 66

Well it winds from Chicago to L.A
More than 2000 miles all the way
Get your kicks on Route 66

Well it goes from St Louie, Joplin, Missouri
Oklahoma City looks oh so pretty
You'll see Amarillo and Gallup, New Mexico
Flagstaff, Arizona, don't forget Winona
Kingman, Barstow, San Bernardino

Won't you get hip to this kind of tip
Jack and take that California trip?
Get your kicks on Route 66

U2 - Stay (Faraway, So Close!), 1993 cd-single - list the 4 songs; don't need to keep:

1. "Stay (Faraway, So Close!)"
2. "I've Got You Under My Skin"
3. "Lemon" (Bad Yard Club edit)
4. "Lemon" (Perfecto mix)

Chris Botti - To Love Again, 2005 duets album, last heard (in a blog) 8/21/2017 - kinda mellow for my drive - but PERFECT for when I'm stopped for Highway Construction:

various - Verve Remixed, Vol. 3, 2005 album, last heard (in a blog) 8/23/2017

10cc - The Very Best of 10cc, 1997 compilation album, last heard (in a blog) 8/24/2017 - I only keep 4 songs:

"The Wall Street Shuffle"
"I'm Not In Love"
"The Things We Do For Love"
"Cry"

"Cry" is especially cool because it was featured in one-of-the-best-ever episodes of "Miami Vice": "Definitely Miami" is the twelfth episode of Miami Vice's second season (1985-86).

Booker T. & The MG's - The Very Best Of Booker T. & The MG's, 1994 hits album, last heard (in a blog) 8/24/2017:

Orpheus - The Very Best Of Orpheus, 2001 compilation album, last heard (in a blog) 8/24/2017 - I only keep "Can't Find The Time" (MAJOR early-FM song) [I always thought it should have been titled "Can't Find The Time To Tell You"]:

Peter Allen - The Very Best Of Peter Allen (TBDU), 1992 compilation album, last heard (in a blog) 8/24/2017 - a good collection (live "Arthur's Song"), but the album to get is his double-live-album "It's Time For Peter Allen" - his cabaret-style comes out best in live recordings:

various - The Very Best Of MTV Unplugged, 2002 compilation album, last heard (in a blog) 8/24/2017 - very well done. I want to research how many artists have "MTV Unplugged" albums - Paul Simon would be GREAT:

various - VH1: I Love The '90s, 2004 compilation album, last heard (in a blog) 8/24/2017 - I LOVE THE ENERGY!
