2025 Late-Summer Road Trip - Day 5-of-35 - August 18, 2025

Monday, Aug. 18, 2025 - Just "Hitting-The-Road" and "Banging-the-Corner":

Minimal breakfast, so I grabbed 11 Post Offices on my way up to Cracker Barrel. It sure is nice being on the "Illinois River Road" (one of America's Byways):

Yes, the Breakfast was Excellent - and I figured I might as well join their "members club":

I really like this Post Office - nothing needs to be added:

Um, what's that up ahead?

After the MAJOR RAINSTORM (windshield wipers could barely keep up, at fastest-setting), I found myself spending some time at a railroad crossing. What is this - Beverly?

At 2:40 I got to the Chazen Museum of Art, Univ. of Wisconsin, Madison, WI. I had a great visit here back in 2015 (10 photos), and I want to get new-better-pictures:

There were 5 pieces I took pictures of - the Lichtenstein was ok, but the other 4 are:

Andy Warhol - "Marilyn Monroe", 1967 Serigraph:

Hubert Robert - "Capriccio of Classical Ruins with Pyramid", ca. 1760 oil:

Attributed to Michele Giovanni Marieschi - "The Square of Santa Maria Formosa, Venice", ca. 1745-1750 oil:

Eugène-Louis Boudin - "Étretat", 1891 oil:
I'm sorry that I didn't see ones that I had seen 10 years ago: Bierstadt, Sonntag, Gifford especially.

I certainly saw a FUN BUS when I left The Museum:

More "Interesting Weather" in Wisconsin:

Driving over the Mississippi River at 6 PM:

Heading into The West in the setting sun:

Checked into Microtel, Clear Lake, IA just before 9 PM - 497 miles today (and 43 Post Offices):

This is what they looked like:

Thank you God for this wonderful Adventure Day!

Music for today:

McCoy Tyner - Time For Tyner, 1969 album, last heard (in a blog) 8/20/2017 - wonderful jazz

Joe Jackson - Stranger Than Fiction (cd single), 1991 cd single, last heard (in a blog) 6/05/2017 - 3 songs: "Stranger than Fiction", "Different for Girls" (New Recording), and "Drowning":

Patty Larkin - Stranger's World, 1995 album, last heard (in a blog) 6/05/2017 - I think Patti said "Don't ever piss-off a songwriter.":

The Persuasions - Street Corner Symphony, 1972 album, last heard (in a blog) 9/03/2021 - excellent soul a capella group. Excellent version of "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother". I may have seen these guys at The Bottom Line in NYC in the mid-70's, but maybe I just want to think that:

Bonnie Raitt - Streetlights, 1974 album, last heard (in a blog) 6/05/2017 - Bonnie does a Wonderful Job throughout, beginning with Joni Mitchell's song "That Song About the Midway":

Sade - Stronger Than Pride, 1988 album, last heard (in a blog) 6/05/2017 - 1st 1/2 EXCELLENT, 2nd 1/2 not so much:

The Blues Brothers - Briefcase Full Of Blues, 1978 live album, last heard (in a blog) 8/27/2022 - Because Joilet Jake and Elwood Blues are from Rock Island, Illinois, and I'm driving East of there!

Pat Metheny Group - American Garage, 1979 album, last heard (in a blog) 7/03/2024 - Because I'm out here in America

The Rolling Stones - High Tide and Green Grass, 1966 hits album, last heard (in a blog) 8/05/2017:

1. "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction"
2. "The Last Time"
3. "As Tears Go By"
4. "Time Is on My Side"
5. "It's All Over Now"
6. "Tell Me (You're Coming Back)"
7. "19th Nervous Breakdown"
8. "Heart of Stone"
9. "Get Off of My Cloud"
10. "Not Fade Away"
11. "Good Times, Bad Times"

The Allman Brothers Band - The Road Goes On Forever (2 cds), 1975 compilation album, last heard (in a blog) 8/27/2018 - yes, it does:

Grateful Dead - Live/Dead, 1969 live album, last heard (in a blog) 8/06/2017 - Pretty cool listening to The Dead's "Dark Star"/"St. Stephen"/"The Eleven" driving through the evening's Midwest countryside
