After Bible Study Zoom, and blogging, I left a little before 10 AM. I have put a lot of miles behind me, and I still have many miles to go, so it is time for a Jiffy Lube oil change (that's another hour I'll never get back). I reached the Morris Museum of Art in Augusta, Georgia at 11:13
They have some nice pieces, including George Inness, Jr. - "Rainbow in Georgia", between 1886 and 1892, oil:
William C.A. Frerichs - "Toula Waterfalls", undated oil:
Paul Sawyier - "Kentucky River Near Gilbert's Creek", circa 1914 oil:
The Morris Museum of Art overlooks the Savannah River, which is the border between Georgia and South Carolina:
After visiting the museum, I crossed the river, and made my way to the Columbia Museum of Art (Columbia, South Carolina):
I was looking forward to this visit - I have never been here before, and they have paintings by Bellotto, Canaletto, Robert Scott Duncanson (2), Francesco Guardi, Claude Monet, and Giovanni Pannini. I don't know what is "On Display", but life is an adventure!
It was a very busy Saturday-afternoon in downtown Columbia (one-way streets, streets closed), and I entered The Museum just after 2 PM. The man at the welcome desk said that "this area over here is closed for construction" and "that area over there is closed for installation of upcoming exhibits". So I said "So, none of your art is On Display." He said "That's right - but the Museum Store is open."
Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't.
Later on I was going through Lamar, South Carolina and saw some plants with white on them - COTTON!!!:
I pulled some off, and took out the seeds. It will be fun "Show-and-Tell" when I get back Home!
Crossing into North Carolina, for some reason I was on the road that ran right through "South of the Border" - I did not stop:
The Greenville Museum of Art (Greenville, North Carolina) closes at 4:30, so that is out of the question for today (At 4:30 I was 158 miles away from The Museum). Let's just enjoy the North Carolina countryside:
Two hours before I checked into The Hotel, the sun was setting in my rear-view mirrow:
After driving 2 hours in the dark, I checked into the Ramada Plaza, Nags Head, North Carolina at 9:20
509 miles today (and 10 Post Offices) - This is what they looked like:
My Favorite today is 27886 - Tarboro, NC - Granite AND Columns - what's not to love? (plus the setting-sun-light)
WOW - Thank you God for another Great (and LONG) Adventure Day!
Music for today:
Seatbelts - Cowboy Bebop, 2016 soundtrack album, last heard (on a Road Trip) never - because it sounded SO COOL in the room this morning!
The Marshall Tucker Band - Anthology: The First 30 Years, 2005 compilation album, last heard (on a Road Trip) 9/24/2022 - um, because they are from South Carolina! Also very very good highway-driving music. A lot of "not bad" but just medicore songs = thin:
Donald Fagen - The Nightfly [Live], 2021 live album, last heard (on a Road Trip) never - good live version of the album, but I saw the show at The Beacon Theatre, and am missing the extra songs after they played The Album:
Van Morrison - The Best of Van Morrison, 1990 compilation album, last heard (on a Road Trip) never - excellent collection of songs, and since I don't "know" this album, I can rearrange it chronologically:
