2025 Late-Summer Road Trip - Day 29-of-35 - September 11, 2025

Thursday, Sept. 11, 2025 - My third full day in Florida - 380 miles ending up at Microtel, Lady Lake, Florida:

I had originally planned seeing a bunch of museums in Central Florida:

the Orlando Museum of Art (Orlando, FL),
the Rollins Museum of Art (Winter Park, FL),
The Charles Hosmer Museum of Art (Winter Park, FL), and
the Museum of Arts & Sciences (Daytona Beach, FL).

But by now I have come to realize that an "8 hour 29 minute/435 miles" drive isn't really "8 hours 29 minutes" - so I scaled-back and first eliminated the Museum of Arts & Sciences (Daytona Beach, FL) [it has a closing time of 5 PM]. As you will read, other "timing concerns" prevented me from visiting the other 3 Museums, with their closing times of 4 PM:

I learned SOMETHING NEW today (really? - MORE "new stuff"???). It turns out that I must have made my travel plans/my travel maps "on a weekend" or "in mid-day". So I have now learned to make my maps (and therefore my travel plans) at about 8:30 in the morning (of the day of the week I will be traveling on). Last winter, when I made my map for this morning, it said it would take about an-hour-and-a-half to get up to the Norton Museum of Art:

But when I got in my car at 8:30 this morning (Museum opens at 10), I saw SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT:

So I just headed up the road:

After a few Post Offices, I reached the Norton Museum of Art at 11:30

As opposed to yesterday, they have a Wonderful Collection, with many pieces ON DISPLAY. Edward Hopper - "August in the City", 1945 oil. I had seen this painting Feb 25, 2023 up at The Whitney for their Hopper retrospective, but I "noticed it more" here, today:

Childe Hassam - "Gloucester Harbor", circa 1899-1909 oil. I really like seeing this "so far from home":

Georgia O'Keeffe - "Pelvis with the Moon - New Mexico", 1943 oil:

Thomas Moran - "Florida Scene", 1878 oil:

Jackson Pollock - "Number 17A", 1948 oil (private collection):

Nice Spaces, Nice Art:

Claude Monet - "Nymphéas (Water Lilies)", 1905 oil:

Claude Monet - "Gardens of the Villa Moreno, Bordighera", 1884 oil:

Pablo Picasso - "Head of a Woman", 1909 bronze:

Alexander Calder - "Untitled", 1965 sheet metal, rod, and paint (private collection):

FUN TREE outside The Museum:

Lunch at Jersey Mike's, then NORTH up Central Florida. There are a lot of subliminal (and not-so-subliminal) messages out there about "How To Be A Man" - I've never seen this one before:

I know someone who is VERY INTERESTED in learning more about the "Loyal Order of Moose"

The Ladies in my family are big fans of HGTV's "Home Town Takeover", and Season 3 focused on Sebring, FL. I had a specific request to visit "Sebring Soda & Ice Cream Works", which was renovated by Ben and Erin Napier:

Nice "Circle in Town", and wall-art:

Once again, beautiful sunsets:

At 8:29 PM, I checked into the Microtel, Lady Lake, Florida (photo from the next morning):

380 miles today (and 19 Post Offices) - This is what they looked like:

My favorite today is 33853 - Lake Wales, FL - Sometimes I'm in a 1950's-retro mood:

Thank you God for another Great Adventure Day!
