2025 Late-Summer Road Trip - Day 30-of-35 - September 12, 2025

Friday, Sept. 12, 2025 - Another Day, Another Great Museum - Maybe I'll get ALL THREE today! 437 miles ending up at Days Inn, Augusta, Georgia:

I left at 8 AM - I have a lot I want to get done, starting with a quick trip into The Villages. They sure like to take care of their landscaping:

Hanging-Moss in McIntosh, Florida:

On my journey for Post Offices, I sometimes get "off the beaten track":

A very nice bed-and-breakfast in Micanopy, Florida:

I reached the Harn Museum of Art (Univ. of Florida, Gainesville) at 10:45

An artist I like is Hermann Herzog. I did not know of him before my February 2015 trip to this part of Florida, when I saw his paintings in Orlando and here in Gainesville. I have since encountered his paintings in smaller museums around the country (The Long Island Museum, Stony Brook, NY; Reading Public Museum, Reading, PA; Philbrook Museum of Art, Tulsa, OK; Butler Institute of American Art, Youngstown, OH), plus the Saint Louis Art Museum. He has 5 paintings on display today, and his best work here in Gainesville is "Scene on Snake Key, Gulf Coast", c. 1896-1910 oil:

I think Herzog draws a lot from Thomas Moran, who has 2 paintings on display - "Fort George Island", 1880 oil:

"Old Watchtower at St. Augustine", 1881 oil:

A lovely space for the display of two Monets (center one from their collection, right one from Lowe Art Museum [so that's why I didn't see it 2 days ago]):

Claude Monet - "Champ d'avoine (Oat Field)", 1890 oil:

Claude Monet - "Waterloo Bridge", 1903 oil (Lowe Art Museum, Univ. of Miami):

other pieces I like include Childe Hassam - "Northeast Gorge at Appledore", 1912 oil:

Pierre-Auguste Renoir - "The Vineyards at Cagnes", 1908 oil (visiting from the Brooklyn Museum):

Martin Johnson Heade - "Tropical Sunset: Florida Marsh", c. 1885-1890 oil:

Louis Comfort Tiffany - "Castillo de San Marcos", 1885 oil - I have enjoyed seeing his paintings here and there:

Time to head up the road to Jacksonville:

Arriving at The Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens at 1:30

Fun spaces, especially for someone wearing "grown-up shoes":

Katsushika Hokusai - "36 Views of Mount Fuji: Pilgrims at the Summit of Mount Fuji", 1830s woodblock print:

Thomas Moran - "Venice, The Grand Canal and the Chiesa • Della Salute", 1890-1906 oil:

Edmund Darch Lewis - "Mount Washington, New Hampshire", 1865 oil:

Thomas Moran - "Ponce de León in Florida", 1877-1878 oil:

I took 4 pictures of paintings by Eugène Louis Charvot - I like his work with texture and atmosphere:

Their gardens look out on the St. John's River, and are lovely:

Straight up 95 North??? I'm REALLY TEMPTED:

At 2:46 it was bye-bye Florida, and HELLO Georgia:

The Sidney Lanier Bridge over the Turtle River, going into Brunswick, Georgia:

It is now 3:45, and it will take 1:19 to get to SCAD Museum of Art in Savannah, GA. Since it closes at 5, that is a no-go for today. And since it is 3-and-1/2 hours to my hotel, I better just keep going. Just north of Riceboro, Georgia, I crossed a branch of Peacock Creek - they have a very nice roadside area:

Georgia Sunsets aren't too bad, either:

At 9 PM, I checked into the Days Inn, Augusta, Georgia (photo from the next morning) - 13 hours on the road is a BIT MUCH:

437 miles today (and 32 Post Offices) - This is what they looked like:

Most-Rustic today goes to 32633 - Evinston, FL (too bad about the leaning flag pole):

I really like the white-paint-job for the Post Office in 31568 - White Oak, GA - ha ha, see what I did there?

WOW - Thank you God for another Great Adventure Day!
