It is always nice to see The Crosstrek right outside my room:
I'm flirting with Time-Zones today, so after I grabbed a couple of Post Offices, I arrived at the Speed Art Museum (Louisville, KY). My last (and only) visit was July 19, 2016:
I took pictures of 27 pieces (every piece has a narrative). My Favorites are:
James McDougal Hart - "Winter on the Hudson", 1869 oil:
George Inness - "The Close of the Day", 1863 oil:
Claude Monet - "The Church at Varengeville, Grey Weather", 1882 oil:
Jervis McEntee - "Indian Summer", 1883 oil:
Randolph Rogers - "Nydia, the Blind Flower Girl of Pompeii", modeled 1854; carved 1858-59 marble (yes, there is also one of these at the MFA Boston):
Canaletto - "An Imaginary View of Padua", 1735-46 etching:
Artists that didn't make "this blog-cut" include Jacob van Ruisdael, Laurent de la Hyre, Roy Lichtenstein, Henry Moore (bronze), George Grey Barnard (marble), Frederic Remington (bronze cast), Pablo Picasso, Childe Hassam, John Singer Sargent, Eugène Louis Boudin, Thomas Addison Richards, Thomas Cole, Albert Bierstadt, Giovanni Paolo Panini, and Hubert Robert.
The Interior Spaces are quite lovely, too:
The Louisville Airport seems REALLY CLOSE to The Highway:
After a sit-down lunch at Chick-fil-A, I made my way south through the Tennessee countryside:
At one point I was able to park overlooking the Tennessee River:
After getting a wonderful dinner at A&W, I checked into the Days Inn - Savannah, TN:
393 miles today (and 21 Post Offices) - This is what they looked like:
My favorite today is 38372 - Savannah, TN - anytime you can add columns-to-a-building, do it:
My least-favorite today is 38370 - Saltillo, TN - for kind-of obvious reasons:
Thank you God for another wonderful Adventure Day, making my way through a part of the country I have not seen before!
Music for today:
Miles Davis - 'Round About Midnight, 1957 album, last heard (on a Road Trip) 8/26/2018 - early morning jazz in the hotel room:
Gangstagrass - Long Hard Times to Come (From "Justified") [feat. T.O.N.E-Z] - Single, 2013, last heard (on a Road Trip) 7/12/2024 - Wendy and I love watching "Justified" (6-season crime drama starring Timothy Olyphant as Raylan Givens, a Deputy U.S. Marshal, set in eastern Kentucky [Coal Country]). This song is a VERY COOL blend of rap and bluegrass, and works VERY WELL:
Gangstagrass Featuring T.O.N.E-z - Lightning On The Strings, Thunder On The Mic, 2010 album, last heard (on a Road Trip) 10/04/2018 - on the other hand, this album has a bit too much garbage = Delete:
Roy Haynes Trio Feat. Danilo Perez and John Patitucci - Roy Haynes Trio, 2000 jazz album, last heard (on a Road Trip) 8/26/2018 - very good jazz trio (then a little spacey):
