2025 Late-Summer Road Trip - Day 23-of-35 - September 5, 2025
Friday, Sept. 5, 2025 - Dropped off Wendy at The Airport, then East through
Illinois/
Indiana/
Kentucky - 434 miles ending up at
Super 8 Carrollton, KY:
An early-morning dropoff at The Airport:
It is always iconic crossing the
Mississippi River:
I know, I know - "The Road Goes On Forever"; but sometimes THE ROAD JUST ENDS:
In case you don't notice it, this nothing-road has a speed-limit of
55 MILES PER HOUR:
This is Mr. Moose's first time in the front seat in 10 days, and he is busy making himself comfortable:
Nothing is as American as a School-Bus-stopping-at-a-railroad-crossing:
Cool "bridge shot" going over the
Ohio River into
Kentucky:
Checked-in at 8 PM (but I think I lost a Time-Zone-Hour) - 434 miles today (and 30 Post Offices):
This is what they looked like:
I like the "Traditional Style" of
62930 - Eldorado, IL:
But I'm REALLY NOT A FAN of the "Brutalist Style" of
62817 - Broughton, IL - at least they have a sign:
Thank you God for another wonderful Adventure Day, letting me chew up these miles!
Music for today:
Bob Dylan -
John Wesley Harding, 1967 album, last heard (on a Road Trip) 9/12/2018:

The Last Great Traffic Jam [Live], recorded 1994, released 2005, last heard (on a Road Trip) 8/07/2018:
various -

Shut up and put your money where your mouth is
That's what you get for waking up in Vegas
Get up and shake the glitter off your clothes, now
That's what you get for waking up in Vegas

Rocky (soundtrack), 1976 soundtrack album, last heard (on a Road Trip) 8/26/2018:
Isaac Hayes -
Shaft (soundtrack), 1971 soundtrack double-album, last heard (on a Road Trip) 8/29/2022 - discuss "the same song". I have a gut sense that, when Wendy and I were living in New York, I heard an almost-identical song on the Rocky and Shaft albums - it is going to take a little work to figure this out (meaning "not today"):
Joni Mitchell -
Shadows And Light (live), 1980 live double-album, last heard (on a Road Trip) 9/02/2021. I really like this album for 2 reasons: excellent songs from Joni's mid-1970's period ("Coyote", "Hejira"), and it has BOTH Pat Metheny AND Lyle Mays - that's like Joni singing for The Pat Metheny Group!!!!
lyrics to "Amelia":
I pulled into the Cactus Tree Motel
To shower off the dust
And I slept on strange pillows of my wanderlust:
John Cougar Mellencamp -
Big Daddy, 1989 album, last heard (on a Road Trip) 8/23/2023 - because I'm driving through INDIANA:
Van Halen -
Right Here, Right Now [Live] (6 songs), 1993 live double-album, last heard (on a Road Trip) 8/28/2018:
5. "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love"
11. "Panama"
12. "Love Walks In"
8. "You Really Got Me/Cabo Wabo"
9. "Won't Get Fooled Again"
10. "Jump"
Pat Metheny Group -
The Road To You (Live), 1993 live album, last heard (on a Road Trip) 8/27/2018 - this album won the 1994 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Jazz Album. This is the 1993 live album, versus Travels (live double-album) 1983. "Last Train Home" give me SUCH CHILLS:
