2025 Late-Summer Road Trip - Day 21-of-35 - September 3, 2025

Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2025 - East into Missouri - 447 miles ending up at Charles & Mimi, Columbia, MO:

On a beautiful morning, heading through Ellis, Kansas for my first Post Office of the day:

Nice wall-art in McFarland, Kansas:

We stopped for lunch in Topeka, at "Iron Rail Brewing":

Since Topeka is The State Capital, it is great seeing the Kansas Statehouse:

We crossed over the Missouri River just before 5 PM:

The Cliffs are wonderful (it is right near "Diana Bend Conservation Area"), but it is REALLY HARD to see them at 65 mph, from the bridge:

We made it to Charle's and Mimi's at 5:30:

447 miles today (and 5 Post Offices). This is what they looked like - my favorite is 67637 - Ellis, Kansas, pictured above

Very Nice Time with my Beautiful Bride! Thank you God for another wonderful Adventure Day!

Music for today:

Bob Weir - Blue Mountain, 2016 album, last heard (on a Road Trip) never - a wonderful album (Wendy likes it). Standouts are 1st and 2nd songs ("Only a River" and "Cottonwood Lullaby"), and the final song "One More River To Cross":

The Chico, the Brazos, the wide Rio Grande
One more river to cross
The Rogue running wild through the cottonwood stand
One more river to cross

I tried to be good for most of my life
Never done wrong when I knew what was right
So when I cross over, my heart will be light
One more river to cross

I was twelve when I first crossed the Cumberland Gap
One more river to cross
And except for in memory, I never looked back
One more river to cross

The Snake and the Sand, the Priest, the Payette
The Willow, the Bravo, the San Bernadette
And I'm tired, but I still got one left in me yet
One more river to cross

My one true companion is carrying me
One more river to cross
And when I cross over, he'll go running free
One more river to cross

Rod Stewart - The Rod Stewart Album, 1969 debut solo album, last heard (on a Road Trip) 8/26/2018 - "Did you ever stand and shiver just because you were looking at a river?":

Glen Campbell - All The Best, 2003 compilation album, last heard (on a Road Trip) 9/20/2023 - "Wichita Lineman", of course:

I am a lineman for the county
And I drive the main road
Searchin' in the sun for another overload

I hear you singing in the wire
I can hear you through the whine
And the Wichita lineman
Is still on the line

I know I need a small vacation
But it don't look like rain
And if it snows that stretch down south
Won't ever stand the strain

And I need you more than want you
And I want you for all time
And the Wichita lineman
Is still on the line

Bruce Springsteen - The Rising (Single), 2002 cd-single, last heard (on a Road Trip) 8/28/2018 - Awesome, backed with live version "Land of Hope and Dreams":

Richie Havens - Resume: The Best of Richie Havens, 1993 compilation album, last heard (on a Road Trip) 8/29/2018:

Dionne Warwick - An Introduction to Dionne Warwick, 2018 compilation album, last heard (on a Road Trip) 8/30/2018:
