Sunday, July 7, 2024 - Today is the day I "touch Alaska" - I'll be covering a lot of territory, but it looks like fun:
The sun is just coming up as we come into Prince Rupert:
We landed, I filled up with gas and got a large-coffee-to-go. The next town up still has some beautiful coastal views in the early-morning light:
While I could connect, I "went to church":
I LOVE THIS ROAD (Hwy 16) that goes up alongside the Skeena River (and its tributary the Khyex River):
Heading inland, and then STILL GOING NORTH:
Very cool views going alongside Bear Glacier Provincial Park:
You hit Stewart, British Columbia right before Hyder, Alaska:
Well, THAT WAS FUN! Let's see if there is any more Beauty down the Road:
I stopped at 2 British Columbia Provincial Parks - Meziadin Lake and Seeley Lake (where I went for a swim)(yes, I had a bathing suit):
Beautiful country up here - the Bulkley River, near Hazelton, British Columbia:
I was spending the night in a tent, in a field just south of Smithers, British Columbia - seemed like a good idea at the time (when I was thinking about this in January). I found a fun friend when I entered the property at 6:43 PM:
I surveyed the property, then went back into town for some dinner and some internet. After a while, I went back and pitched my tent:
I did a sudoku and listened to some Pat Metheny, and then said good night. 536 miles today. Thank you God for these Great "British Columbia" Adventures!
Music today:
Mike Oldfield - Tubular Bells, 1973 debut album, last heard 10/03/2013:
Cat Stevens - Tea For The Tillerman, 1970 album, last heard 10/05/2013:
various - 60s Ultimate Collection, Vol. 2: The History Of Rock, last heard 10/05/2013:
various - 2013 Grammy Nominees, 2013 compilation album, last heard 10/05/2013:
Bad Company - 10 From 6, 1985 compilation album, last heard 10/06/2013. I saw Bad Company and Kansas on April 05, 1976 at Madison Square Garden - Kansas wasn't very good, but I really liked Bad Company. "Shooting Star" is from their 2nd album, and was the song I had in my head all day when I was racing Lasers (and winning!) one summer day on The Vineyard:
various - 25 All-Time Greatest Summer Songs, 2000 compilation album, last heard 10/06/2013 - well, it is summertime!
J. Geils Band - The J. Geils Band, 1970 debut album, last heard 10/07/2013:
Jethro Tull - Aqualung, 1971 4th album, last heard 10/07/2013:
Freddie Hubbard - The Artistry of Freddie Hubbard, 1963 album, last heard 10/08/2013:
Carly Simon - Come Upstairs, 1980 album, last heard 5/03/2014 - Carly, on a song-by-song basis, is great and makes for very nice listening to on the radio. An album's worth of her stuff gets to be a bit much - the song "In Pain" is garbage:
Neil Young - Comes a Time, 1978 acoustic (mostly) album, last heard 5/03/2014:
Crosby & Nash - Graham Nash & David Crosby, 1972 debut (for the duo) album, last heard 4/21/2014:
David Crosby - If I Could Only Remember My Name...., 1971 debut solo album, last heard 4/21/2014 - enjoyable, but quiet and really short (not enough material for a full album?):
and to round out The Group - Stephen Stills - Stephen Stills, 1970 debut solo album, last heard 7/15/2021:
