Monday, July 1, 2024 - Another long day today - 625 miles, ending at the Days Inn, Dawson Creek, British Columbia. Highlight today is visiting Dixonville, Alberta (?for my free cup of coffee?):
A late start this morning (10 AM) - excellent internet allows me to do blogging, upload my Canada Post photos, send out my TMB email (“no TMB this week - 4th of July”), and reply to emails. So it was noon by the time I reached Lac La Biche, Alberta:
Heading out 55 West, I’m enjoying my new-favorite-sandwich = “The Uncle” from A&W Root Beer Stands:
There sure is some beautiful country out here:
So, after the town of Athabasca, Alberta, I overshot the turn I was supposed to make to my right. Well, obviously God had other plans, because not more than a couple of miles later I ran into SUNSET BEACH:
2-and-1/2 hours later I was up at the town of Joussard, Alberta. I said hi to the cute family, and splashed my face with cool clean water from Lesser Slave Lake:
Mr. Moose likes using the armrest when he is doing his job: Guarding the soda bottle from the harmful rays of the sun:
I don’t know what those yellow/golden plants are, but they sure are beautiful (I have been told by a friend: "The yellow crop is Canola, one of Canada’s biggest crops. It’s used mostly to make cooling oil, but also used as a bio-fuel."):
At 7:19 in the evening, I made it to Dixonville, Alberta - a bit late in the day to ask for my free-cup-of-coffee:
Some more beauty up here:
At 8:45 PM, on my way down to the British Columbia border (which I reached at 9:56):
As I texted my kids, how is it even possible to go from Sunset Beach to Dawson Creek - aren’t they in different universes???
At 10:38 I checked in to the Days Inn, Dawson Creek, British Columbia (I switched time zones entering British Columbia, so their clock says 9:38). 625 miles today (and a CAR WASH tomorrow!) - Thank you God for these Great Adventures!
So - time for me to move on from the “next album alphabetically” concept. Since I keep track of when I last listened to an album (and which blog it was in), I sorted on “last played” - THERE ARE ALBUMS I HAVE NOT LISTENED TO IN OVER 10 YEARS!
The Rolling Stones - Let It Bleed, 1969 album, last heard 6/10/2015 (I just wanted to start the day with this one):
Elvis Costello - The Best Of Elvis Costello And The Attractions, 1985 compilation album, last heard 9/12/2013:
Fairport Convention - Liege & Lief, 1969 album, last heard 9/12/2013 - "Matty Groves" and "Tam Lin" still rock out and sound great:
Pat Metheny Group - Letter From Home, 1989 album, last heard 9/12/2013:
R.E.M. - Life's Rich Pageant, 1986 4th album, last heard 9/12/2013:
The Corrs - Talk On Corners, 1997 2nd album, last heard 9/12/2013:
Coldplay - A Rush of Blood to the Head, 2002 2nd album, last heard 9/13/2013:
Pat Metheny - One Quiet Night, 2003 album, last heard 9/14/2013:
Van Morrison - Live At The Grand Opera House Belfast, 1984 live album, last heard 9/16/2013:
Curtis Mayfield & The Impressions - The Anthology 1961-1977 (2 cds), 1992 compilation album, last heard 9/19/2013:
Then my iPod died, so I switched to my silver nano
Dave Mason - Alone Together, 1970 debut solo album, last heard 8/23/2023:
various - AM Gold: The Mid 60's Classics, 1995 compilation album, last heard 2/17/2022:
Scott & Brendo - And Away We Go, 2013 album, last heard 8/13/2021. I saw a video for the 2nd song "Little Voices", and THE ENERGY AND FUN WERE OFF THE CHARTS. They still are:
