Monday, July 10, 2023 - Today Wendy ends a 4-day visit with her sister out in Colorado - which gives me a GREAT opportunity for a ROAD TRIP:
1,979 miles in 4 days - 1 museum (plus 131 Post Offices [128 in the US, plus 3 in Canada])
Since I have been chasing ART for longer than I have been chasing Post Offices, I'll deal with ART first. On Saturday July 8 I crossed over into Canada, after visiting the Tim Horton's in Houlton, Maine:
Less than 2 hours later, I was down at the Beaverbrook Art Gallery in Fredericton, New Brunswick:
The 3 pictures worth sharing are:
Winston Churchill - "Marrakech", 1936 oil:
J.M.W. Turner - "The Fountain of Indolence", 1834 oil:
Alfred Sisley - "La falaise de Penarth, le soir-temps orageux,", 1897 oil:
As with all my trips, I enjoy my time on the road just fine:
As I was waiting at Customs to return to the U.S.A., Graham Nash & David Crosby were playing "Immigration Man" (from 1972):
It took 30 minutes to get through US Customs. That really puts a damper on any thoughts of a "quick trip to Canada".
Maine sure is pretty:
Does this mean they will pay me to pick up litter?
I visited the Post Office up in Saint Francis, Maine - look it up on a map:
That's CANADA on the other side of the St. John River:
It was a great 4-day trip. I had previously got the Post Offices in purple. This trip was:
Friday - Light Blue (spent the night at the Appalachian Trail Lodge in Millinocket)
Saturday - Orange (spent the night at Hampton Inn in Presque Isle)
Sunday - Olive (spent the night at the Super 8 in Augusta)
Monday - Yellow
I picked-up Wendy at Logan Airport Monday evening and we headed home. Thank you God for these wonderful adventures!
