2025 Late-Summer Road Trip - Day 21-of-35 - September 3, 2025

Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2025 - East into Missouri - 447 miles ending up at Charles & Mimi, Columbia, MO:

On a beautiful morning, heading through Ellis, Kansas for my first Post Office of the day:

Nice wall-art in McFarland, Kansas:

We stopped for lunch in Topeka, at "Iron Rail Brewing":

Since Topeka is The State Capital, it is great seeing the Kansas Statehouse:

We crossed over the Missouri River just before 5 PM:

The Cliffs are wonderful (it is right near "Diana Bend Conservation Area"), but it is REALLY HARD to see them at 65 mph, from the bridge:

We made it to Charle's and Mimi's at 5:30:

447 miles today (and 5 Post Offices). This is what they looked like - my favorite is 67637 - Ellis, Kansas, pictured above

Very Nice Time with my Beautiful Bride! Thank you God for another wonderful Adventure Day!

Music for today:

Bob Weir - Blue Mountain, 2016 album, last heard (on a Road Trip) never - a wonderful album (Wendy likes it). Standouts are 1st and 2nd songs ("Only a River" and "Cottonwood Lullaby"), and the final song "One More River To Cross":

The Chico, the Brazos, the wide Rio Grande
One more river to cross
The Rogue running wild through the cottonwood stand
One more river to cross

I tried to be good for most of my life
Never done wrong when I knew what was right
So when I cross over, my heart will be light
One more river to cross

I was twelve when I first crossed the Cumberland Gap
One more river to cross
And except for in memory, I never looked back
One more river to cross

The Snake and the Sand, the Priest, the Payette
The Willow, the Bravo, the San Bernadette
And I'm tired, but I still got one left in me yet
One more river to cross

My one true companion is carrying me
One more river to cross
And when I cross over, he'll go running free
One more river to cross

Rod Stewart - The Rod Stewart Album, 1969 debut solo album, last heard (on a Road Trip) 8/26/2018 - "Did you ever stand and shiver just because you were looking at a river?":

Glen Campbell - All The Best, 2003 compilation album, last heard (on a Road Trip) 9/20/2023 - "Wichita Lineman", of course:

I am a lineman for the county
And I drive the main road
Searchin' in the sun for another overload

I hear you singing in the wire
I can hear you through the whine
And the Wichita lineman
Is still on the line

I know I need a small vacation
But it don't look like rain
And if it snows that stretch down south
Won't ever stand the strain

And I need you more than want you
And I want you for all time
And the Wichita lineman
Is still on the line

Bruce Springsteen - The Rising (Single), 2002 cd-single, last heard (on a Road Trip) 8/28/2018 - Awesome, backed with live version "Land of Hope and Dreams":

Richie Havens - Resume: The Best of Richie Havens, 1993 compilation album, last heard (on a Road Trip) 8/29/2018:

Dionne Warwick - An Introduction to Dionne Warwick, 2018 compilation album, last heard (on a Road Trip) 8/30/2018:

Bob Dylan - Blood On The Tracks, 1975 album, last heard (on a Road Trip) 9/02/2018:

Hot Tuna - Hot Tuna -1st album (expanded), 1970 debut album, last heard (on a Road Trip) 9/03/2018 - I like their acoustic blues:

2025 Late-Summer Road Trip - Day 20-of-35 - September 2, 2025

Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2025 - Down and east into Kansas - 371 miles ending up at Super 8, WaKeeney, KS:

Well, isn't that a lovely way to start the day:

It is a wide open world out there:

I messaged Wendy a nice Time Zone Map:

Left Colorado, and entered Kansas:

After we checked in to the Super 8, WaKeeney, KS, we went downtown for dinner. That was where I saw "Today's Art" - a very nice print/engraving of Bierstadt's "Sierra Nevada Morning":

We settled in for the night:

371 miles today (and 3 Post Offices). This is what they looked like:

Very Nice Time with my Beautiful Bride! Thank you God for another wonderful Adventure Day!

Music for today:

Kent Henry - Waking, 2003 worship album, last heard (on a Road Trip) 8/30/2017 - ok, but don't need to keep

Warren Zevon - "Things to do in Denver when You're Dead", 1991 song - single song - because we're near Denver

Warren Zevon - Learning To Flinch [Live], 1993 live album, last heard (on a Road Trip) 9/12/2023 - seems like a good idea to keep listening to Warren

Barenaked Ladies - Rock Spectacle (Live), 1996 live album, last heard (on a Road Trip) 8/26/2018 - Great Band-name, but a bit misleading (no ladies, certainly not barenaked ones):

John Mayer - Room for Squares, 2002 debut album, last heard (on a Road Trip) 8/26/2018:

Rickie Lee Jones - Rickie Lee Jones, 1979 debut album, last heard (on a Road Trip) 8/28/2018. She performed at Carnegie Hall on July 22, 1979 - it was a Sunday, and Wendy and I flew back from weekend-on-The-Vineyard to attend this concert. Pretty Cool:

Garland Jeffreys - Rock and Roll Adult, 1981 live album, last heard (on a Road Trip) 8/27/2018 - in winter 1982 (Wendy pregnant with Caroline), we went downtown to see Garland. We left an hour after the show was supposed to start - a worker said "Well, you know, that's just Garland.":

2025 Late-Summer Road Trip - Day 19-of-35 - September 1, 2025

Monday, Sept. 1, 2025 - East, and down into Colorado - 353 miles ending up at Edwards House, Fort Collins, CO:

Yes - there is A LOT of wide-open-space out here in these Wide Open Spaces:

At a rest stop, Mr. Moose was wondering the best way to say Hello to a new friend:

We stopped for a nice lunch in Downtown Laramie, Wyoming:

A Lot of Windmills have been built (and some are even turning!):

We crossed into Colorado at 2:20

I guess Wendy is getting a little tired of the "Super 8 Lifestyle" (and maybe I am also, a little). So she did some research, and we checked into Edwards House, Fort Collins, CO around 3:30

After a little rest, we had a WONDERFUL DINNER with Gene, Sarah, and Doug at Vern's Place in Laporte, Colorado:

After dinner we went just up the road to see Sarah and Gene's NEW HOME. After the full tour, we headed back to Edwards House for the night - 353 miles today (and 3 Post Offices). This is what they looked like:

Thank you God for another wonderful Adventure Day!

Jason Aldean - Crazy Town
Little Big Town - Little White Church

various - Nuggets From Nuggets, 2000 compilation album, last heard (on a Road Trip) 8/14/2018 - Great Songs, but DELETE because it duplicates Toga Rock and Animal House:

With tracks by U2, Pearl Jam (live), Coldplay Bright Eyes, R.E.M. (live), Peter Gabriel, Natalie Merchant, Paul McCartney (live), Eric Clapton, Sting, and Bonnie Raitt, this is a nice collection to roll away the miles with:

Rickie Lee Jones - Flying Cowboys, 1989 album, last heard (on a Road Trip) 6/30/2024 - maybe my favorite Rickie Lee Jones album:
