Tuesday May 6 through Sunday May 11, 2025 - This was a VERY INTENSE stretch of time, with Wendy officiating an old friend's wedding at The Florence Griswold Museum in Old Lyme, CT on Wednesday, and then flying out to St. Louis, MO for the wedding of Wendy's sister's oldest child (daughter Bentley):
We spent Tuesday night at The Madison Beach Hotel (Madison, CT):
The Florence Griswold Museum was a lovely venue for the wedding:
I was able to see their art before The Wedding: Childe Hassam - "Ten Pound Island", ca. 1896-99 oil:
We headed home Wednesday night, and flew out of Logan Thursday morning:
We rented a Chevy Equinox, which was a fine size for the 5 of us. It had all these VERY WIERD "helpful" features, like the gear-shift was on the steering wheel, and the lane-change alert is changed from an audio chime to a driver's-seat-vibration (I think it goes so far as to have your right butt vibrate if you stray into the right lane, and your left butt vibrate if you go left) - not "helpful" at all (I really do not want to buy a "New Car" these days):
We went to a fun party Thursday evening:
Friday I visited the Saint Louis Art Museum with Ellie and Ardath:
We saw their ROARING exhibition, which was all about hot cars and cool women:
We had lunch down in their cafe, and then I had my run of The Museum. Another exhibition was "In Search of America: Photography and The Road Trip" - I LOVE THE CONCEPT, but the execution wasn't very good. Kelli Connell - "Betsy, Lake Ediza", 2015 photograph:
I have visited This Museum a couple of times before, and their 2 blogs are here: Oct. 5, 2013 and Aug. 5, 2017. My favorites today include Winslow Homer - "The Country School", 1871 oil:
Hermann Herzog - "Winona Falls", 1877 oil:
Alfred Thompson Bricher - "Twilight in the Wilderness", 1865 oil:
Canaletto - "An Island in the Lagoon with a Gateway and a Church", 1743-44 oil:
That was a fun walk through the Saint Louis Art Museum:
Ellie leaving the Saint Louis Art Museum, on her way to the Missouri History Museum:
After leaving Ellie there, I headed over to the Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum (Washington University) (only visited once before on Aug. 5, 2017):
Frederic Edwin Church - "Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta", 1883 oil:
I was Very Pleasantly Surprised to see FIVE pieces on loan from Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville, AR. Pieces that I saw in Bentonville (in 2017) and saw today (in 2025) include:
Winslow Homer - "The Return of the Gleaner", 1867 oil:
Martin Johnson Heade - "The Harbor at Rio de Janeiro", 1864 oil:
Outside The Museum, on a bright sunny afternoon, are 2 pieces I like:
Auguste Rodin - "The Shade", 1880 bronze:
Alexander Calder - "Five Rudders", 1964 painted sheet metal, rods, and bolts (I especially like the bird perched on the upper-right):
Quick little visit on the 3 floors of The Museum:
At the Friday-evening Rehersal Dinner at The Deer Creek Club there was a Memorial Bench to Deede & Crunnie Cole:
It was GREAT seeing everyone at The Wedding on Saturday:
On Sunday, heading through the Saint Louis Airport at 1 PM:
Looking out over Marblehead Neck before landing and heading home. Thank you God for these GREAT Adventures:

Yale Center for British Art, and Yale University Art Museum - April 11, 2025
Friday, April 11, 2025 - I have done some research: In celebration of J.M.W. Turner's 250th birthday this year, there are a number of Exhibitions around the world. In fact, the Yale Center for British Art in New Haven currently has one:
I wound up taking pictures of 9 oils, 36 watercolors, and 9 engravings!
Wendy and I walked Singing Beach at sunrise, had breakfast, and then hit the road at 8:30. 3 hours later, we were parking in New Haven:
Yale was looking pretty nice:
After lunch, we walked up a block to the Yale Center for British Art at 12:15
It has a lovely central-area space:
We walked up to the 4th floor to see their "regular collection". Beauties include Willem van de Velde the Elder - "Ships and Militia by a Rock Shore", ca. 1680 pen and ink:
Canaletto (he was in England from 1746 to 1755) - "St. Paul's Cathedral", ca. 1754 oil:
Robert Smith - "Indise the Main Entrance of the Purana Qila, Delhi", 1823 oil:
And then it was time to go down to the 3rd floor:
starting with an iconic oil - "Staffa, Fingal's Cave", 1832:
the 3 best watercolors are "Mer de Glace, in the Valley of Chamonix", ca. 1815:
"Devil's Bridge, St. Gotthard's Pass", ca. 1815:
"Dartmoor: The Source of the Tamar and the Torridge (for The Rivers of Devon)", ca: 1813:
And I cannot leave without sharing at least one engraving - "Catania, Scily", ca. 1825 mezzotint from the "Little Liber" (Sequels to the Liber Studiorum):
Across the street is the Yale University Art Museum:
Richard Parkes Bonington - "Calais Jetty, France", ca. 1824 oil:
Pierre-Auguste Renoir - "Mont Sainte-Victoire", ca. 1888-89 oil:
I really like their galleries:
Thomas Cole - "View from near the Summit of Mount Washington, N.H.", 1828 oil:
John Singer Sargent - "View of Capri", ca. 1878 oil:
Well, wasn't that a FUN DAY:
Left New Haven at 2:30 = Five Guys in Peabody at 5:30. WOW - Thank You God for this wonderful art/adventure day!
A couple of days later I found out we weren't the only people visiting the Yale Center for British Art:
