Yale Center for British Art, and Yale University Art Museum - April 11, 2025

Friday, April 11, 2025 - I have done some research: In celebration of J.M.W. Turner's 250th birthday this year, there are a number of Exhibitions around the world. In fact, the Yale Center for British Art in New Haven currently has one:
I wound up taking pictures of 9 oils, 36 watercolors, and 9 engravings!

Wendy and I walked Singing Beach at sunrise, had breakfast, and then hit the road at 8:30. 3 hours later, we were parking in New Haven:

Yale was looking pretty nice:

After lunch, we walked up a block to the Yale Center for British Art at 12:15

It has a lovely central-area space:

We walked up to the 4th floor to see their "regular collection". Beauties include Willem van de Velde the Elder - "Ships and Militia by a Rock Shore", ca. 1680 pen and ink:

Canaletto (he was in England from 1746 to 1755) - "St. Paul's Cathedral", ca. 1754 oil:

Robert Smith - "Indise the Main Entrance of the Purana Qila, Delhi", 1823 oil:

And then it was time to go down to the 3rd floor:

starting with an iconic oil - "Staffa, Fingal's Cave", 1832:

the 3 best watercolors are "Mer de Glace, in the Valley of Chamonix", ca. 1815:

"Devil's Bridge, St. Gotthard's Pass", ca. 1815:

"Dartmoor: The Source of the Tamar and the Torridge (for The Rivers of Devon)", ca: 1813:

And I cannot leave without sharing at least one engraving - "Catania, Scily", ca. 1825 mezzotint from the "Little Liber" (Sequels to the Liber Studiorum):

Across the street is the Yale University Art Museum:

Richard Parkes Bonington - "Calais Jetty, France", ca. 1824 oil:

Pierre-Auguste Renoir - "Mont Sainte-Victoire", ca. 1888-89 oil:

I really like their galleries:

Thomas Cole - "View from near the Summit of Mount Washington, N.H.", 1828 oil:

John Singer Sargent - "View of Capri", ca. 1878 oil:

Well, wasn't that a FUN DAY:

Left New Haven at 2:30 = Five Guys in Peabody at 5:30. WOW - Thank You God for this wonderful art/adventure day!

A couple of days later I found out we weren't the only people visiting the Yale Center for British Art:
